Architects offer a comprehensive professional service from concept to completion. This includes:
- Advising the client on site selection – which property is best suited for your project
- Designing solutions that meet your requirements and add value to your property
- Advising on how your brief relates to your budget
- Submission of planning approval to local authorities
- Providing tender documentation and recommending which contracts to use for your build
- Co-ordinating the work of other professional consultants on the team
- Conducting inspection and administration of the construction stage
These services are defined in the six work stages described by the South African Council of Architectural Professionals Framework for Professional Fees (SACAP).
- Stage 1 – Inception
- Stage 2 – Concept
- Stage 3 – Design Development
- Stage 4 – Documentation as
- 4.1 – Municipal Submission
- 4.2 – Tender documentation
- Stage 5 – Construction Administration
- Stage 6 –Close Out

Architects can be appointed for full standard services, or partial services depending on your needs. Architects are required by law to be registered with SACAP, and are bound by a Code of Conduct, and the Architects Act 44 of 2000.
